Field of Study
My interest in global health was initiated by a two-year stay in Bangkok, Thailand in the mid-1960’s, where many epidemics recurred unchecked each year.  I trained in molecular biology and virology and began my career in industry, only to be captured by the unique questions of immunosuppression in the early 1980’s when HIV and AIDS were first discovered.  With the continuing need for vaccines to limit the pandemic, I have been an active contributor and leader in the quest for vaccines for the last 18 years.
