Global Health Biotechnology Center: Flow Cytometry

This core provides high-speed cell sorting, flow cytometer analysis, and related consultation services by qualified scientific and technical staff to determine the characteristics of the cells in a complex cell mixture. Cell populations of interest can then be collected on the cell sorter for further experimentation. This facility also includes surface plasmon resonance instrumentation for real-time monitoring of macromolecular interactions.

The facility is equipped with the following:

  • Cytopeia Influx high-speed cell sorter – Equipped with 3 lasers (UV, blue, red) for experiments with up to 8 colors; includes a biocontainment system for sorting BSL-2 level infectious agents.

  • Becton Dickinson LSRII analyzer – Equipped with 4 lasers (violet, blue, green, red) for experiments up to 18 colors; includes a high throughput sampler (HTS) that can rapidly introduce samples from 96 and 384 well plates.

  • Beckman Coulter Epics XL-MCL cell analyzer – Equipped with a blue laser for experiments with up to 4 colors; includes automated multi-tube carousel loader (100 tubes/hour).

  • Biacore X - Optical biosensor instrument for affinity measurements, binding kinetics and binding specificity experiments.
