SBRI's GLOBAL HEALTH 101 presents
Influenza: Here today. Gone tomorrow?
The wily influenza virus can cause seasonal flu or mutate with another
virus to cause a deadly pandemic. At Seattle Biomedical Research Institute's
Global Health 101, ask experts your questions about flu and approaches to
vaccine development. Join us for this special panel discussion, where you'll
increase your global health knowledge and learn how to prepare for whatever flu
strikes next.
Learn the basics about flu virus and vaccines from our expert
panelists:
-
Ask Alan Aderem, Ph.D., about different types of flu and
various approaches to vaccine development. Dr. Aderem is the director of the
Institute for Systems Biology.
-
Ask Janet Englund, M.D., how you and your family can
prepare for and protect against flu. Dr. Englund is a leading expert on
influenza at Seattle Children's Hospital.
-
Ask Helen Horton, Ph.D., what a virus is, how it mutates
and how scientists look for vaccine targets. Dr. Horton is a principal
investigator for SBRI's Viral Vaccines Program.
-
Meet Todd Patrick, SBRI Board of Trustees Chair, who will
moderate the panel. As former president and COO for ID Biomedical, Patrick
has a wealth of knowledge in vaccine development.
Refreshments will be provided. Following the panel
discussion, take a tour of SBRI's labs. Admission is free, but space is limited.
RSVP by Friday, October 30, to Elli
Koskella or 206.256.7214.
