Why do we need your financial support? Your donation provides SBRI with the flexibility to continue vital research already under way at the Institute, while focusing on areas of strategic growth. Ultimately, you support our mission of eliminating the world’s most devastating infectious diseases through leadership in scientific discovery.

SBRI is in the top 10 percent of all organizations in the world receiving competitively-awarded funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our scientists have won several highly sought after research grants from the largest philanthropic foundation in the world, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Each of these grants awarded to SBRI is a validation that our research is on the right track and is highly likely to succeed.

Total Cost of Research

Funding for scientific research is very structured and specific, with no flexibility. And, while competitive research grants cover nearly all of our research costs, private fundraising provides the critical flexible funding to equip our talented researchers with the necessary tools, technologies and scientific support to discover new solutions to deadly diseases.

New Solutions Needed

By financially supporting SBRI’s research, you are ensuring that work continues – and accelerates – toward developing:

  • Viable vaccines to combat malaria and HIV

  • New drugs to treat tuberculosis faster and cheaper

  • New diagnostics and drugs to detect and prevent African sleeping sickness, leishmaniasis and Chagas disease

  • The next generation of scientific leaders

Using Your Gift Effectively

In turn, we assure you that your gift is used both efficiently and effectively: for the third year in a row, SBRI has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities, guaranteeing SBRI’s high standards for financial stewardship and management. Only 9 percent of the charities evaluated receive this high rating for three years running.
